Since I had such a positive response with my old refrigerator manual post, I am sharing a fun old laundry booklet. It's filled with super fun vintage photos of the women of yesteryear dealing with their everyday laundry problems.

Good Afternoon Carlene, I love these booklets which you have been sharing with us.
I was taught how to iron shirts by my mother Phyllis and it is exactly the same way as your instruction booklet.
It is so much fun looking back. I will have to tell my mum about this post as I know she will love it.

Carlene. Such fun to look through the old manuals. I spotted 'bluing'. I remember my grandma using bluing in her laundry, something about that always has stuck in my mind..Happy Friday..Judy
I love the Martins. A big smiling happy family. I think we were better off when we portrayed happy people and happy families. They may have been actors but it was so wholesome. Love the old pamphlet.
Hi Carlene, I just love this post and the old manuals like this. The Martin family are delightful. Those times seems so special when people actually ironed and took so much care in washing clothes. I must confess, I do love to iron linens and such. My mil said she had one of those large ironers. Wonder where they used to keep those in the house?

I just love looking at booklets/manuals like these.
It's funny- I usually think two things-
the first is that the housewives of yesteryear took things so seriously-
but then I end up thinking I admire how they cared for their families.
Is that crazy?

OMG this is hilarious!! Mrs. Martin sure made a good deal of money I bet being the spokesperson in these ads!! I'm sure I would enjoy my laundry more if I would just put on a big smile and wear a dress while doing it!!

Boy we've got it made with our washing machines these days! Oh what memories as a child seeing many people with the old wringer washing machines. I guess I'm dating myself now.

Oh my gosh Carlene, this is priceless! I have some fun old books sometime. I have to tell you a funny story. A couple of years ago when my granddaughter, Taylor was 12 her mom picked up a vintage book about beauty and charm and gave it to her. One morning she came out with a towel around her head and said she had to leave it on for 15 minutes. Because that's what it said to do in her book, Her mom couldn't stop laughing. Of course, not out loudly, just inside.

Am I the only one shocked by the "turn your body linens out"? I guess the boys in my family have been doing it right for ages and I've been turning them back again as I load the washer!
Come on - I'd love to hear - do you turn your body linens out or not?
Also, my grandmother used to iron sheets - but she didn't have one of those handy roller irons --- just a hand one. I still am amazed that women used to take the time to do that!
